Quick Clean-Up for Company

Hebrews 3:13 (NIV)
But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called Today, so that none of you may be hardened by sin's deceitfulness.

I used to be such a spaz when we invited company over. I needed to have everything perfectly cleaned and perfectly in its place before anyone came over. As a result, I would act like a mad woman trying to get EVERYTHING done.

Well, that was before we had our Little One and before I had a good working routine.

Now that my house is in continual cleaning mode with MyRoutine and since one of my daily chores is to make sure that everything is in its place I don't spaz out as I used to when I have company and there are just a few key spots that I like to touch up before our company arrives to make the house look tended to:

1. Make sure all the dishes are washed and put away and kitchen counter cleared.
2. Wipe down stove top and oven door.
3. Dust off TV and wipe off finger prints.
4. Wipe down bathroom mirrors.
5. Surface clean bathroom sink and shine faucet and knobs.
6. Wipe down toilet.

That's it! Since I surface vacuum twice a week, the floors usually look ok, but if it looks like it needs a quick go over I will do a surface vacuum, but I don't make that a first priority. If my company is coming for coffee in the morning and I do the dishes at night it takes me about 10-15 minutes to hit these key spots. No stress and no mad woman.

Besides, just like Jesus at Mary and Martha's, your company would rather have you spend the time with them rather than worry about the cleanliness of the house and remember that the purpose of having company is to share in the fellowship of the gospel, glorifying and enjoying God with one another.
