Praying Without Ceasing
1 Thessalonians 5:17 (NASB)
...pray without ceasing
Ephesians 6:18 (NASB)
With all prayer and petition pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view, be on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints...
I've been making it a point to rise early to read God's Word and pray before starting the day, but today I tried something different. Monday is my grocery shopping day and I normally do not get out of the house until after noon. Then when I normally get home I am so tired that I end up not doing anything else for the rest of the day. Well, one reason I don't get moving until later is because I usually spend my Monday mornings reading, praying, and planning my menu. So, today, I decided to get an early start out the door. I was able to get out of the house by 8:30am and all my shopping done and groceries put away by 11:00am. Well, I discovered what Paul may have meant by "pray without ceasing". Since I had not taken the time in the morning for a specific time of prayer I reviewed the prayer request list I have and tried to remember as many requests as I could. As I did my errands and chores today I muttered prayers for the requests I could remember. As I thought about all the people who have requested prayers and all the people I said I would pray for, there are enough requests to pray for the whole day, to "pray without ceasing", and I thought that even in all that we do throughout the day, we can continue to pray for others too.
