Special Delivery...
I went to a baby shower yesterday and since I am also pregnant, I was in high newborn baby mode. When I got home, DearDaughter and I watched a slide show I made of her as a newborn and all the fond memories of her birthday just came rushing back.
For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. (Ephesians 2:8-10)
Dear Baby...
You were born on Thanksgiving Day, November 24, 2005 @ 6:42am. You were 8 poumds 6.8 ounces and 20 ¾ inches long!!!...You are a beautiful gift from God!!!
...
After about 3 hours of pushing, the doctor could see your head and asked if she could help Mommy out by vacuuming you out. Daddy wanted to try it naturally, but Mommy begged Daddy for the vacuum because Mommy was just so tired! Daddy agreed and the doctor got the vacuum out. However, even with the vacuum, Dr. Huggins was not able to get you out and so the doctor gave Mommy a drug called Petocin to help make the contractions a little harder to help me push harder. Even with the Petocin, Mommy could not push you any further. By this time, your head was beginning to swell from the vacuum and the doctor recommended a C-section. Daddy kept an eye on the fetal monitor and noticed that even through this whole time, you were not distressed at all and this whole ordeal did not bother you!
The anesthesiologist came in to talk to Mommy about the anesthesia procedure. The biggest scare that Mommy had was that while Mommy was getting the spinal block shot Mommy would have a contraction and Mommy would move and the doctor would hit the wrong nerve and paralyze Mommy forever. Well, just as the anesthesiologist got the needle inside Mommy, sure enough a contraction came on. Mommy announced this contraction and the doctor told Mommy to hold still as much as she could. Mommy took a hold of the doctor and just squeezed the doctor as hard as she could so that the rest of Mommy’s body would not move. As soon as the spinal block was administered to Mommy, Mommy’s whole bottom half became numb and Mommy could not feel anything!!! Then, Daddy was finally allowed into the operating room. Before the surgery the anesthesiologist asked if Mommy wanted to know when the Doctor was beginning the surgery. Mommy just said “NO”! Within a few minutes Mommy heard your crying and Mommy cried tears of joy at that instant. As soon as you were born, Daddy got up to follow you around and made sure that you were safe and secure. After getting you cleaned up, the nurses handed you to Daddy and Daddy came over so that Mommy could give you your first human touch and first kiss!!! We took our first family picture right there as Mommy was on the operating table.
Daddy and Mommy pray for you daily. We love you so much!
Love,
Mommy
